May is the 3rd most productive month of the year with at least one individual of 205 species being seen. The summer migrants continue to move through including Garganey, Hobby, Cuckoo, Spotted Flycatcher, more Terns and Skuas with the chance of Pomarine. “Small” wader numbers should rise during the month with Dunlin, Ringed Plover, Sanderling and the chance of a Curlew Sandpiper or Little Stint. Rarer records include Subalpine Warbler (2004), Golden Oriole (2016), Bee-eater (2007), Bearded Tits (2024), Spoonbills, Great White Egrets, Cattle Egrets, White Stork (2025), Glossy Ibis (2024,2025), Honey Buzzard (1991,2011), Montagu’s Harrier (2015), Hen Harrier, Osprey, Collared Pratincole (2020), Kentish Plover (2004), Buff-breasted Sandpiper (1990), Temminck’s Stint (2004,2016,2019,2023), Broad-billed Sandpiper (1988), Dotterel (2011), Black-winged Stilt (2017), Pectoral Sandpiper (2022), Franklin’s Gull (1984), Laughing Gull (2012), Long-tailed Skua, Sabine’s Gull, Roseate Tern (1990) and White-winged Black Tern (1990).

31st May
A day of sunshine and cloud with a West wind. At least 8 Little Ringed Plover (5+ adults), 2 Avocets, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, single Redshank and Ringed Plover, 27 Lapwings, a Little Egret, 3 Grey Herons, 22 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 4 Shelduck, 24+ Gadwall, 5 Tufted Duck, single drake Teal, Cetti’s Warbler, Kestrel and buck Roe Deer were reported from Pilning Wetland. Reports from Severn Beach included a Curlew, 3 Oystercatcher, 6 Little Egrets, 9 Shelduck, 2 Cetti’s Warbler, single Great Black-backed Gull, Little Grebe and Pheasant. 30th May
Another muggy day with a mixture of sunshine and cloud in a lighter South West wind. Single Grey Plover and Whimbrel, at least 6 adult Little Ringed Plover, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 10 Ringed Plover, 5 Dunlin, 2 Redshank, 41 Oystercatchers, 17+ Lapwing (3 small chicks), 5 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 19 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 24 Shelduck, a pair of Shoveler, 21 Gadwall, a drake Teal, 4 Tufted Duck and a Cetti’s Warbler were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. At least 16 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 4 Shelduck, 2 singing Cetti’s Warblers and a Lesser Whitethroat were reported from the Severn Beach shore.

29th May
A warm day with a mixture of cloud and sunshine and a West/South West wind. At least 8 Little Ringed Plover (including 3+ chicks now 8 days old), 4 Avocets, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 7 Dunlin, a pair of Redshank, a Ringed Plover, 16 Lapwings (2 new chicks), 40 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 28 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 38 Shelduck, 20+ Gadwall, 3 Tufted Duck and a singing Cetti’s Warbler were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. It was quiet at Severn Beach despite the gusty wind with just 5 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egret, 5 Shelduck, and a Kestrel worth a mention.

28th May
A sunnier day with a gusty West wind. A Storm Petrel, 50+ Manx Shearwaters, 2 Avocets, 12 Canada Geese, 2 Shelduck and a Kestrel were reported from the Severn Beach shore and an exhausted Fulmar was found in the village. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 4 Avocets, 4+ Little Ringed Plover, 14 Lapwings, 3 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin, 20 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 32 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 18 Shelduck, 16 Gadwall, a drake Teal, 2 Swifts, single Sand Martin, Cetti’s Warbler and Kestrel.

27th May
Another wet and windy day. At least 2 Storm Petrels, 240+ Manx Shearwaters, single Guillemot and Arctic Tern, 2 Oystercatchers, a Ringed Plover, 7+ Little Egrets, 4 Shelduck, 2 Peregrines, single Kestrel and Swift were seen from the Severn Beach shore. The same 250 Manx Shearwaters, a Guillemot, 8 Oystercatchers, a Little Egret, 13 Canada Geese, 18 Shelduck and a Gadwall were seen from Chittening Warth. Combined reports from the very windswept Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 4 Avocets, 4+ Little Ringed Plover, 2 Redshank, 10+ Lapwings, 11 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, 62 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 18 Shelduck, 16 Gadwall and a singing Cetti’s Warbler.

26th May
Mainly cloudy with brief rain showers and a gusty West/South West wind. Combined reports from Severn Beach included the first Storm Petrel sighting for 2 years (at 18.20), 150+ Manx Shearwaters, single Guillemot and Fulmar, 2 Grey Plover, 7 Whimbrel, 7 Oystercatchers, 2 Ringed Plover, a Dunlin, 4 Little Egrets, 7 Shelduck, 8 Gadwall, 5 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Great Black-backed Gulls, single Peregrine, Kestrel and Swift. A Sanderling, 4 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 2 Redshank, 2 Ringed Plover, 15+ Lapwing, 24 Oystercatchers, 3 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 51 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 16 Shelduck, 19 Gadwall, single drake Teal, Swift and Cetti’s Warbler were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area today. Reports from Chittening Warth involved 100 of the Manx Shearwaters seen earlier from Severn Beach, 13 Oystercatchers, 22 Canada Geese and 10 Shelduck.

A mixture of sunshine and cloud with a strong West/South West wind. Reports from Severn Beach include a flock of 6 Little Terns flying North East, 2 Avocets, 8 Sanderling, 12 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, single Grey Heron and Canada Goose, 5 Shelduck and a Kestrel. Combined reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage included 6 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 14+ Lapwings, 2 Grey Herons, 2 Mute Swans, 45 Canada Geese, 13 Shelduck, 20+ Gadwall, a Tufted Duck, 8 Swift, single Sand Martin and Kestrel.

24th May
A cloudy day with occasional drizzle and a gusty South West/West wind.The blustery wind produced 16 Kittiwakes off Severn Beach this afternoon where other reports included a Little Egret and 2 Shelduck. At least 8 Little Ringed Plover, 7 Avocets, 2 Redshank, 16 Lapwings, a Grey Heron, 7 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 8 Shelduck, 18 Gadwall, 7 Tufted Duck and 2 Swifts were reported from Pilning Wetland.

23rd May
A sunny day with West/South West breeze. A quiet day. Several visits to Pilning Wetland/New Passage produced 9 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 16+ Lapwing, 2 Redshank, a Little Egret, 16 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 18 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 26+ Gadwall, a drake Teal, 7 Tufted Duck and a Kestrel. The only reports worth a mention at Severn Beach involved 3 Little Egrets, 9 Canada Geese, 7 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, a Little Grebe (still on the flood beneath the railway bridge), 3 Cetti’s Warbler and a Kestrel.

22nd May
Another dry and mainly sunny day. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 5 Avocets, 11 Little Ringed Plover (3+ chicks), 2 Redshank, 18 Lapwing (including chicks), 9 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 22 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 64 Shelduck, 49 Gadwall, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Swift, single Kestrel and Cetti’s Warbler. At least 9 Ringed Plover, 2 Whimbrel, 3 Dunlin, 22 Oystercatchers, 4 Little Egrets, 4 Shelduck, 4 Cetti’s Warblers and a Peregrine were reported from Severn Beach.

21st May
A sunny day following overnight rain with the wind veering from the West for the first time in weeks. Single Cattle Egret, Great White Egret, 5+ Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 11 Avocets, 10+ Little Ringed Plover (including 4 new chicks), 5 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin, 2 Redshank, a Turnstone, 19 Lapwings (including 8 chicks from 3+ broods), 16 Oystercatchers, 12 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 12 Shelduck, 27 Gadwall, a female Wigeon, 64 Mallard, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Swifts, 2 Kestrels, single Sparrowhawk, Cetti’s Warbler and Yellow Wagtail were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Reports from the Severn Beach shore included 3 Whimbrel, 9 Ringed Plover, 3 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 8 Shelduck, 9 Coot (including 7 chicks on a flooded area beneath the railway) and at least 2 singing Cetti’s Warblers.

A warm day with more cloud and the light North East wind continued. Three Whimbrel, a Little Egret, 8 Canada Geese, 14 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 4 singing Cetti’s Warblers, single Red Kite and Sparrowhawk were reported from the Severn Beach shore. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 4 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, a Redshank, 17 Lapwings ( including 2 broods of 3 chicks), 18 Oystercatchers, 2 Great White Egrets (flew NE), 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 6 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 27 Shelduck, 24 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 3 Tufted Duck, a Teal, 2 Swifts, single hunting Hobby, Kestrel and Cetti’s Warbler.

19th May
Yet another dry day with a mixture of cloud and sunshine in a light North East breeze. Combined visits to the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area produced 4 Avocets, at least 6 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Ringed Plover, 2 Redshank, 22 Oystercatchers, 17 Lapwings (including broods of 3 and 2 chicks), a Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, 16 Canada Geese, a Mute Swan, 76 Shelduck, 36 Gadwall, 6 Tufted Duck, 65 Mallard, 3 Teal, 2 Kestrels, 2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Swifts and a Cetti’s Warbler. A Whimbrel, 9 Ringed Plover, 12 Oystercatchers, 7 Shelduck (one duckling) and a Sparrowhawk were reported from Severn Beach.

18th May
The weather remained the same; warm, sunny and a light North East wind. Two Grey Plover, 50+ Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 20 Oystercatchers, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Canada Geese, 12 Shelduck (including the first brood of the year, unfortunately just one duckling), 3 Gadwall, a Great Black-backed Gull and 3 singing Cetti’s Warblers were reported from the Severn Beach shore and a Tawny Owl was heard calling in the village just after midnight. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 9 Ringed Plover, 12 Lapwing (3 well grown chicks), 10 Oystercatchers, a Redshank, 2 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Heron, 7 Canada Geese, single Greylag Goose and Mute Swan, 13 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 36 Gadwall, 5 Teal, 7 Tufted Duck, 2 Swifts, single Kestrel, Cetti’s Warbler and Grey Wagtail.

17th May
Another sunny day with a North East breeze. At least 6 Little Ringed Plover, 15 Lapwing including 3 chicks, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 7 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 11 Shelduck, 51 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler, 2 Teal, 7 Tufted Duck, 3 Swifts, single Sparrowhawk and Kestrel were seen at Pilning Wetland. A Little Egret and 6 Shelduck were seen at Severn Beach. At least 20 Sand Martins were feeding over the small pond at Stupp Pill on Chittening Warth.

16th May
A warm, sunny day with the persistent North East breeze. At least 4 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 6 Ringed Plover, a Dunlin, 6 Oystercatchers, 4 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 6 Canada Geese, 10 Shelduck, 4 Gadwall, 2 Marsh Harrier and 3 Cetti’s Warblers were reported from the Severn Beach shore. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 7 Little Ringed Plover, 12+ Lapwings including 2 chicks, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 8 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 33 Shelduck, an impressive 56+ Gadwall, 6 Shoveler, 2 Teal, single Wigeon and drake Pochard, 5 Tufted Duck, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Swifts, 3 Yellow Wagtails, single Kestrel and Cetti’s Warbler.

15th May
A warm, dry and sunny day with a North East wind. Reports from the Severn Beach shore included 2 Sandwich Terns (both flew North East), 5 Whimbrel, 5 Ringed Plover, a Dunlin, 2 Curlew, 26 Oystercatcher, 4 Little Egrets, 17 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 2 adult Coot and 6 chicks, 28 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Marsh Harriers (flew together upriver), 3 Cetti’s Warblers and a Peregrine. The Glossy Ibis, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 20 Ringed Plover, 14+ Lapwings, single Whimbrel and Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, single Grey Heron, 6 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 35 Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, a drake Pochard, 6 Tufted Duck, 4 Shoveler, 2 Teal, a Mediterranean Gull, 20+ Black-headed Gulls, 3 Swifts, single Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area.

A dry day with hazy sunshine and  the wind remaining from the East/North East. The 11th Severnside Glossy Ibis was found on Pilning Wetland early evening where other reports included single Black-tailed Godwit, Sanderling and Redshank, 6+ Little Ringed Plovers, 14 Ringed Plover, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Dunlin, 12+ Lapwings, 20 Oystercatchers, a Great White Egret, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Heron, 12 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 20 Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, an impressive 64 Gadwall, a Wigeon, 5 Teal, 10 Tufted Duck, 7 Swift, single Red Kite, Kestrel, Yellow Wagtail and Cetti’s Warbler. Reports from Severn Beach included 5 Whimbrel, a Curlew, a mixed flock of 15 Dunlin/Ringed Plover, 40 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Egrets, 2 Canada Geese, 6 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 25 Black-headed Gulls, a Little Grebe and 3 Cetti’s Warblers.

13th May
A warm and humid day and one brief heavy thunderstorm in the afternoon with the wind still from the North East/East. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 17 Sanderling, a Grey Plover, 2 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 8 Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 2 Oystercatchers, a Redshank, 15+ Lapwing including 3 well grown chicks, a Spoonbill, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 5 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 39 Shelduck, 30 Gadwall, 5 Tufted Duck, 3 Teal, a Shoveler, 2 Swifts, single Cetti’s Warbler and Yellow Wagtail. At least 3 Whimbrel, 2 Avocets, 3 Curlew, 9 Ringed Plover, 7 Dunlin, 37 Oystercatchers, single Little Egret and Grey Heron, 2 Canada Geese, 20+ Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, 2 Great Black-backed Gulls, 2 Cetti’s Warbler and a Siskin were reported from the Severn Beach shore.

A humid day with a South East breeze veering to East. Combined reports from the Severn Beach shore included 6 Whimbrel, a mixed flock of 14 Dunlin/Ringed Plover, 40 Oystercatchers, 5 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 4 Canada Geese, 18 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 2 Arctic Terns, a Little Grebe, a pair of Coot with 5 chicks, 3 Cetti’s Warblers and a Spotted Flycatcher. Six Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 15 Lapwing, 2 Redshank, 11 Ringed Plover, 2 Snipe, single Common Sandpiper, Little Egret and Grey Heron, 6 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 5 Shelduck, 29 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Spotted Flycatchers, single Kestrel, Swift and Yellow Wagtail were reported from Pilning Wetland.

11th May
A warm (24°C) and humid day with some brief heavy rain showers late afternoon and the wind remained from the North East/ East. The Wood Sandpiper, 4 Avocets, 8 Little Ringed Plover, 7 Ringed Plover, 15+ Lapwing, 6 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 20+ Shelduck, 4 Shoveler (3 drakes), 29 Gadwall, a pair of Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, a Teal, 15 Black-headed Gulls, single White Wagtail and Cetti’s Warbler were reported from Pilning Wetland/New Passage. At least 3 Whimbrel, 4 Little Egrets, 2 Canada Geese, 10 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 52 Black-headed Gulls, 5 singing Cetti’s Warblers and a Yellow Wagtail were reported from the Severn Bach shore. Reports from Aust Cliff/services this morning included 6 Shelduck, 2 Ravens and a Lesser Whitethroat.

Another dry, warm (22°C) and sunny day with an East wind. The first Wood Sandpiper for 2 years was found on Pilning Wetland this morning where other reports included 2 Whimbrel, 8 Little Ringed Plovers, 16+ Lapwings, 2 Ringed Plover, single Snipe, Common Sandpiper and colour-ringed Great White Egret (ringed as a chick at Ham Wall, Somerset in 2024), 2 Grey Heron, 3 Little Egrets, 12 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 12 Shelduck, 34+ Gadwall, 2 Teal, 5 Tufted Duck, 4 Shoveler, 3 Swifts, 2 Cetti’s Warbler, single Lesser Whitethroat, Red Kite, Kestrel and Yellow Wagtail. Combined reports from the Severn Beach shore included 13 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 14 Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 35 Oystercatchers, a Little Egret, 3 Canada Geese, 20+ Shelduck, a Little Tern flying North East and 5 singing Cetti’s Warblers.

A breeding plumaged male Ruff, 8 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 Ringed Plover, 4 Whimbrel, 6 Curlew, 5 Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper, 17+ Lapwings, 2 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 5 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 25 Shelduck, 40+ Gadwall, 3 Shoveler, a Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 8 Swifts, single Peregrine, Kestrel, Sand Martin, Spotted Flycatcher and Yellow Wagtail were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. At least 12 Ringed Plover, 10 Whimbrel, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Curlew, 35 Oystercatchers, single Turnstone, Dunlin and Little Egret, 2 Canada Geese, 12 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 13 Black-headed Gulls, a Great Black-backed Gull, an immature male Marsh Harrier, 2 Swifts, 3 Cetti’s Warbler and a Yellow Wagtail were reported from the Severn Beach shore. Combined reports from Severn Beach included 3 Mediterranean Gulls flying together North East (2 adults & a 1st summer), a Knot, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits, 34+ Whimbrel, 4 Curlew, 32 Oystercatchers, 17 Ringed Plover, 11 Dunlin, 6 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, 38 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 4 Tufted Duck, 48 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Great Black-backed Gulls, 5 Cetti’s Warblers and a Yellow Wagtail. An Avocet, 8 Little Ringed Plover, 17+ Lapwings (including chicks from 2 broods), single Little Egret and Grey Heron, 9 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 23 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 39 Gadwall, single Wigeon and Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, 5 Swift, single Yellow Wagtail and Kestrel were reported from Pilning Wetland/New Passage.

A day of hazy sunshine with a North East wind. A White Stork flew North over Aust Wetland (7th Severnside and first May record) where other reports included a Grey Heron, 4 Reed Warblers, single Sedge Warbler and Garden Warbler, 2 Whitethroats and 2 Stonechats. A dark-bellied Brent Goose, at least 22 Whimbrel, 20 Oystercatchers, 5 Dunlin, a Redshank, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Canada Geese, 36 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 3 Cetti’s Warblers were reported from Severn Beach. Reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage involved 6+ Little Ringed Plovers, 17 Lapwings, single Little Egret and Grey Heron, 4 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 25 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 22 Gadwall, a Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 26 Black-headed Gulls, single Sparrowhawk, Lesser Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler. Four Bar-tailed Godwits, single Knot and Curlew were seen at Chittening Warth.

6th May
The weather remained the same; dry mainly sunny and a North East wind. At least 8 Little Ringed Plover, 15+ Lapwings (at least 3 chicks), single Oystercatcher, Snipe, Little Egret and Grey Heron, 15 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 13 Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, 24 Gadwall, 4 Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, single Kestrel, Peregrine, Swift and Cetti’s Warbler were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Reports from the Severn Beach shore included 9 Whimbrel, 7 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin, 14 Oystercatcher, 2 Canada Geese, 18 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 8 Coot (6 chicks), 3 Swifts and 2 Cetti’s Warblers.

5th May
Another dry day with a mixture of sunshine and cloud in a gusty North East wind. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included a drake Garganey, the Little Stint, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 18+ Lapwing (including chicks), 5 Dunlin, a Grey Heron, 7 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 35 Shelduck, 28 Gadwall, a Teal, 2 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 3 Red Kites, 11 Swift and a Yellow Wagtail. At least 9 Dunlin, 17 Ringed Plover, 11 Whimbrel, 30 Oystercatchers, 5 Little Egrets, 5 Canada Geese, 12 Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, 6 Arctic Terns, a male Marsh Harrier, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a Willow Warbler, 3 Cetti’s Warblers and a Kestrel were reported from the Severn Beach shore.

A cooler day, sunshine followed by a cloudy afternoon with gusty North East wind. The Little Stint, a Greenshank, 2 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 8 Dunlin, 3 Snipe, 18+ Lapwing including 4 chicks, single Little Egret and Grey Heron, 8 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swan, 38 Shelduck, 3 Shoveler, 36 Gadwall, 3 Tufted Duck, a Wigeon, 3 Swifts, single Yellow Wagtail, White Wagtail, male Marsh Harrier and Kestrel were reported from Pilning wetland/New Passage. Combined reports from Severn Bach included 16 Whimbrel, 8 Oystercatchers, 2 Curlew, a mixed flock of 20 Dunlin and Ringed Plover, single Little Egret and Grey Heron, 2 Canada Geese, 11 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 2 Cetti’s Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, single Cuckoo, Kestrel, Redpoll and Siskin. A few Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 4 Little Egrets, single Cetti’s Warbler, Yellow Wagtail and Kestrel were reported from Chittening Warth


3rd May
Another warm sunny day with a North East wind. A Little Stint, 4 Avocets, 11 Whimbrel, 8 Little Ringed Plover, 8 Ringed Plover, 14 Dunlin, 12+ Lapwing, 4 Oystercatchers, a Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 7 Coot (2 adults and 5 chicks), 6 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 20+ Shelduck, 24 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 3 Tufted Duck, single Teal, Red Kite, Sparrowhawk, Swift and Cetti’s Warbler, 5 Sedge Warbler and 5 Reed Warbler were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Combined reports from Severn Beach included 14 Bar-tailed Godwits, 10 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 13 Ringed Plover, 19 Dunlin, 2 Oystercatchers, 5 Little Egret, single Greylag Goose and Canada Goose, 16 Shelduck, 60 Cormorants (over Denny Island), 25 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Great Black-backed Gulls, 4 Swifts, 3 Cetti’s Warblers, single Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Lesser Whitethroat and Yellow Wagtail.

Another dry, warm and sunny day. Reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage involved single Little Stint and Ruff, 3 Avocets, 6+ Little Ringed Plover, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Whimbrel, 8 Bar-tailed Godwits, 27 Dunlin, 12 Ringed Plover, 13 Oystercatchers, a Great White Egret, 5 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 6 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 55+ Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 36 Gadwall, 4 Teal, 7 Tufted Duck, single Marsh Harrier, Hobby, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Yellow Wagtail, White Wagtail, Swift, Cetti’s Warbler and Wheatear. At least 4 Whimbrel, 3 Little Egrets, 8 Barnacle Geese (flying North East), a Canada Goose, 12 Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, the 8th Osprey of the year (flew North East at 13.40), 4 Cetti’s Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroats were reported from Severn Beach. Another 14 Whimbrel and 3 Lesser Whitethroats were reported from the Aust Cliff/services area.

The warmest (28°C) day of the year so far with a light North East breeze. Combined reports from Severn Beach included 3 Grey Plover, 6 Sanderling, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits, 25+ Whimbrel, 10 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plover, 20 Oystercatchers, 3 Little Egrets, a Canada Goose, 31 Shelduck, 8 Gadwall, a Little Grebe, 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 4 Cetti’s Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, single Peregrine and Tawny Owl. At least 6 Little Ringed Plover, 7 Dunlin, 11 Ringed Plover, 3 Greenshank, a Common Sandpiper, 20+ Lapwings, single Snipe and Grey Heron, 9 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 13 Shelduck, 4 Shoveler, 39 Gadwall, single Wigeon and Pochard, 4 Teal, 6 Tufted Duck, 2 Cetti’s Warblers, single Yellow Wagtail and Whinchat were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Another 12 Whimbrel, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits, single Yellow Wagtail and Tree Pipit were reported from Chittening Warth
