November is still a month worth looking for birds. It has a respectable total of 188 species recorded during the month with a few surprise birds. Remarkable records include; Britain’s first Black-bellied Storm Petrel and Britain’s 5th Pacific Diver just 2 days apart in 2009. Other national and local rarities include American Golden Plover (2013), Great Northern Diver (1984,2015,2020, 2021), Black Guillemot (2015), Ring-necked Duck (2000), Smew (2010), Green-winged Teal (2014), White-rumped Sandpiper (1998), Long-tailed Skua (1994), Glossy Ibis (2015), Woodlark, Shorelark, Snow Bunting, Lapland Bunting, Cory’s Shearwater (2000), Whooper Swan (1983) and Richard’s Pipit (1993, 2018), Dartford Warbler (2005,2015) and Waxwing (2005). A Merlin or two can usually be seen perched on posts anywhere between New Passage and Aust Warth. Short-eared Owls can often be seen hunting at dusk over the salt marsh at Aust Warth. Seabirds seen in South West gales include Leach’s Petrel, Pomarine Skua and Little Auk.

30th November
A frosty -1°C start to the day. Morning reports from the Aust Cliff/services area involved 240 Black-tailed Godwits heading up river, a Little Egret, 428 Fieldfares, 291 Redwings, 5 Brambling, 12 Siskin, 2 Ravens, 2 Peregrines, single Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. A Peregrine and a Sparrowhawk were seen at Aust Warth. At least 34 Black-tailed Godwits, 400 Dunlin, 90 Lapwings, 20 Oystercatchers, 20 Curlew, 70 Redshank, 2 Great White Egrets, 60 Greylag Geese, 230 Canada Geese, 22 Shelduck, 200 Wigeon, 45 Shoveler, 200 Teal and 16 Gadwall were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Combined reports from Severn Beach included 3 Bar-tailed Godwits, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 28 Ringed Plover, 50 Oystercatchers, 33 Curlew, 165 Redshank, 220 Turnstones, 700 Dunlin, single Snipe and Grey Heron, 7 Mute Swans, 12 Shelduck, 70 Wigeon, 2 Teal, a Gadwall, 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, a Water Rail, 2 Kestrels single Stonechat and Rock Pipit.

29th November
Another cold and cloudy day with a North East breeze. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 140 Black-tailed Godwits, 3000 Dunlin, 240 Lapwings, 75 Redshank, 70 Oystercatchers, a Grey Heron, 44 Greylag Geese, 290 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 46 Shelduck, 45+ Shoveler, 16 Gadwall, 170 Wigeon, 190 Teal and 2 Stonechats. Another 70 Redshank, 8 Curlew, 2 Oystercatchers, a Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, a Great Black-backed Gull, 60 Wigeon, 21 Shelduck, single Cetti’s Warbler, Siskin and Pheasant were reported from Severn Beach.

28th November
A cool day, mainly cloudy with brief sunny periods. Early morning reports from Aust Cliff/services included a Great Northern Diver flying South West, 4 Little Egrets, 14 Ravens, 164 Fieldfares, 104 Redwings, 2 Mistle Thrushes, 2 Peregrines, 11 Siskins, 10 Redpolls, single Brambling, Yellowhammer, Chiffchaff, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. The Great Northern Diver continued flying South past New Passage and other reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area involved at least one Twite calling near Chestle Pill, 45 Greylag Geese, 120 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 71 Shelduck, 180 Wigeon, 350 Teal, 120 Mallard, 25 Gadwall, 60 Shoveler, 2 Pintail, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 110 Oystercatchers, 165 Lapwings, 40 Curlew, 94 Redshank, an impressive 3000+ Dunlin, 4 Little Egrets, 4 Grey Herons, 2 Stonechats, single Raven, Cetti’s Warbler, Peregrine, male Marsh Harrier, Kestrel, Rock Pipit and Siskin. A Short-eared Owl, 65 Wigeon, 17 Shelduck, a Grey Heron, single singing Cetti’s Warbler, Stonechat and Rock Pipit were reported from Severn Beach. A late afternoon/dusk visit to Aust Wetland produced a hunting Barn Owl, a Tawny Owl and 3 Kestrels.

27th November
A cold, cloudy day with rain in the afternoon and a North wind. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 160 Black-tailed Godwits, 140 Lapwings, 40 Turnstones, 300 Dunlin, 20 Redshank, 30 Oystercatchers, 20 Curlew, 56 Greylag Geese, 230 Canada Geese, 28 Shelduck, 170 Wigeon, 160 Teal, 50+ Shoveler and 12 Gadwall. A visit to Severn Beach produced 50 Turnstones, 10 Curlew, 6 Oystercatchers, 70 Wigeon, 12 Shelduck, 2 Ravens, a Sparrowhawk and a Stonechat. Single hunting Barn Owl, Kestrel, Chiffchaff, 50 Redwings and 200 Fieldfares were seen at Aust Wetland late afternoon.

26th November
A very murky, damp, cool day with a South East breeze. At least 170 Black-tailed Godwits, 1700 Dunlin, 35 Curlew, 20 Oystercatchers, 70 Lapwing, 70 Redshank, 2 Grey Herons, 41 Greylag Geese, 220 Canada Geese, 35 Shelduck, 60 Shoveler, 310 Teal, 150 Wigeon, 14 Gadwall, single female Merlin, male Marsh Harrier and Rock Pipit were reported from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. At least 30 Turnstones, 3 Little Egrets, 7 Shelduck, 90 Redwings, single Fieldfare and Rock Pipit were seen from the Severn Beach shore at low tide this morning. Two Stonechats and 5 Fieldfares were seen at Aust Warth.

25th November
A cold and frosty dawn followed by a bright sunny day. Early morning reports from the Aust Cliff/services area included single Golden Plover and redhead Goosander flying South West, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Peregrines, a Raven, 12 Siskins, a Brambling and over 4300 Wood Pigeons. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area involved a Twite (calling in flight over the salt marsh), 7 Avocets, 150+ Black-tailed Godwits, a Golden Plover, 120 Redshank, 34 Turnstones, 260 Lapwings, 25 Curlew, 30 Oystercatchers, 1000+ Dunlin, 4 Little Egrets, 4 Grey Herons, 41 Greylag Geese, 150 Canada Geese, 60 Shelduck, 63 Shoveler, 25 Gadwall, 170 Wigeon, 440+ Teal, 2 Stonechats, 2 Rock Pipits, 3 Chiffchaffs, single Water Rail, Kestrel, Grey Wagtail and Siskin. A morning low tide walk at Severn Beach produced a few distant Turnstones, Curlew and Oystercatchers, 7 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 70+ Wigeon, 2 Stonechats, 2 singing Cetti’s Warblers, single Water Pipit, Rock Pipit and male Blackcap. The first Barn Owl of the year, 15 Lapwings, 3 Curlew, 2 Snipe, 3 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron, 2 Cetti’s Warblers, 200+ Redwings, 500+ Fieldfares, 3 Stonechats, a Grey Wagtail and a Water Rail were reported from Aust Wetland this afternoon.

24th November
A cooler day with a light North wind. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 5 fly over Crossbills, 100+ Lapwings, 50 Redshank, 12 Dunlin, 25 Oystercatchers, 30 Curlew, 2 Grey Herons, 47 Greylag Geese, 120+ Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 42 Shelduck, 50+ Shoveler, 140 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 14 Gadwall, 380 Teal, single Pochard and Tufted Duck, 2 Stonechats, single Cetti’s Warbler and Kestrel. Another 50 Dunlin, 3 Curlew, 2 Redshank, a Little Egret, 20+ Shelduck, single Merlin, Peregrine and Kestrel were seen from Aust Warth.

23rd November
A cool, breezy and sunny day. Reports from New Passage included 40 Greylag Geese, 200 Canada Geese, 97 Shelduck, 120 Wigeon, 40 Oystercatchers, 120 Curlew, 120 Lapwings, 8 Ringed Plover, 60 Redshank, 25 Turnstones, 16 Dunlin, 2 Little Egrets, single Kestrel, Peregrine and Raven. Two Stonechats were seen at Severn Beach. Another 4 Stonechats were reported at Aust Warth. Meanwhile I was away today on Bryher, Isles of Scilly where the 3rd ever British and first English record of Cape May Warbler was showing well. We also found 2 Waxwings, a species that might put in another appearance on Severnside soon this winter, with high numbers being seen throughout the country at the moment.

22nd November
A cloudy day with light West wind. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included at least one Twite (still on the stone wall near Chestle Pill), 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Golden Plover, 150 Redshank, 46 Curlew, 150 Lapwings, 100 Turnstones, 50 Dunlin, 3 Snipe, 3 Grey Herons,  a very late probable Sandwich Tern, 43 Greylag Geese, 250 Canada Geese, 12 Shelduck, 38 Shoveler, 22 Gadwall, 160 Wigeon, 260 Teal, 2 Pintail, a Kestrel, 2 Peregrines, 2 Stonechat, 38 Siskins, single Water Rail, Raven, Cetti’s Warbler, Grey Wagtail and Rock Pipit. Another 15 Turnstones, 20 Ringed Plover, 5 Little Egrets, 60 Wigeon, 16 Shelduck, single Raven, Stonechat and Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach.

21st November
A mainly cool, cloudy day with North breeze. Two Twite, at least 35 Dunlin, 5 Turnstones, 4 Redshank, 120 Curlew, 2 Grey Herons, at least 40 Greylag Geese, 350 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 74 Shelduck, 180 Wigeon and 2 Shoveler were reported from New Passage. At least 70 Lapwings, 260 Teal, 30 Shoveler, 4 Gadwall were seen on Pilning Wetland.

20th November
A wet start to the day with some sunny intervals later. Reports from Severn Beach included 50 Dunlin, 250 Turnstones, 40 Curlew, 8 Oystercatchers, 2 Ringed Plover, 65 Wigeon, 15 Shelduck and 2 Cetti’s Warblers. The usual 95 Curlew, 800 Dunlin, 70 Redshank, 110 Lapwings, 10 Turnstones, a Little Egret, 5 Grey Herons, 44 Greylag Geese, 240 Canada Geese, 12 Shelduck, 140 Wigeon, 68 Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, a drake Pintail were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Two Stonechats were seen at Aust Warth.

19th November
A wet and windy day. Combined reports from Severn Beach with at 18+ observers present included 4 Leach’s Petrels (one killed by a Gull), 2 Storm Petrels, single Gannet, Fulmar, Auk species, Red-throated Diver, 2 Little Gulls (adult &1st winter), 1st winter Mediterranean Gull, Brent Goose, Purple Sandpiper, 23 Kittiwakes, a Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Common Scoters, 2 Canada Geese, 15 Shelduck, 70 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 150 Turnstones, 15 Curlew, 40 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area were less exciting with a Grey Plover, 400 Dunlin, 50 Redshank, 95 Curlew, 40 Lapwings, 60 Oystercatchers, 12 Turnstones, a Grey Heron, 40+ Greylag Geese, 160 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 50 Shelduck, 50+ Shoveler, 250 Teal, 150 Wigeon, 18 Gadwall, single Pintail and Tufted Duck, 2 Peregrines and a Rock Pipit being seen.

18th November
A cloudy day with some rain. A Water Pipit was reported from Severn Beach where other sightings included a Knot, 21 Ringed Plover, 40 Dunlin, 150 Turnstones, 7 Curlew, 2 Common Scoters, 23 Shelduck, 60 Wigeon, 2 Great Black-backed Gulls, 2 Rock Pipits, single Raven, Kestrel, Blackcap and Cetti’s Warbler. A Spotted Redshank, 250 Redshank, 800 Dunlin, 260 Lapwings, 70 Curlew, 60 Oystercatchers, 12 Turnstones, a Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, 42 Greylag Geese, 120 Canada Geese, 110 Shelduck, 52 Shoveler, 190 Wigeon, 300 Teal, 16 Gadwall, 2 Pintail, 40 Fieldfares and a Rock Pipit were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. A Peregrine, 2 Cetti’s Warblers and a Stonechat were reported from Aust Warth.

17th November
A sunny day following early showers. At least 33 Curlew, 70 Wigeon, 25 Shelduck, an adult Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Stonechats and a Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach in a brief morning visit. Combined reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage involved 90 Dunlin, 70 Lapwings, 50 Oystercatchers, 140 Redshank, 97 Curlew, 40 Turnstones, 2 Snipe, 2 Grey Herons, a Little Egret, 43 Greylag Geese, 7 Canada Geese, 14 Shelduck, 52 Shoveler, 10 Gadwall, 120 Wigeon, 260 Teal and 35 Fieldfares.

16th November
A cloudy day with some rain in a light North East breeze. Morning reports from the Aust Cliff/services area included fly over Hawfinch and Water Pipit, 70 Dunlin, 9 Fieldfares, 11 Brambling, 4 Siskins, 3 Grey Wagtails, single Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk and Peregrine. Just 10 Lapwings, 85 Dunlin, 100 Curlew, 20 Oystercatchers, 40 Redshank, a Little Egret, 7 Grey Herons, 12 Canada Geese, 3 Mute Swans, 13 Shelduck, 40+ Shoveler, 210 Wigeon, 250 Teal and a Sparrowhawk were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Another 21 Shelduck, 70 Wigeon, 2 Grey Herons, 3 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach.

15th November
A mainly sunny day with a moderate strength South West breeze. A Leach’s Petrel, 50 Dunlin, 40 Redshank, 150 Curlew, 40 Oystercatchers, a Snipe, 28 Greylag Geese, 34 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 70 Shelduck, 200 Wigeon, 4 Fieldfares, single Kestrel and Rock Pipit were seen from New Passage. At least 80 Lapwings, 13 Curlew, 2 Grey Herons, 2 Mute Swans, 40 Shoveler, 250 Teal, 15 Wigeon, 6 Gadwall, 2 Pintail and a Kestrel were seen on Pilning Wetland. A Gannet, 6 Turnstones, 5 Curlew, 2 Dunlin, a Ringed Plover, 15 Shelduck, 45 Wigeon, single Kestrel and Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach. Reports from Aust Warth involved 2 Short-eared Owls, 3 Peregrines, a Kestrel, 4 Stonechats and a Cetti’s Warbler.

14th November
A very wet morning. Reports from Aust Cliff/services included 2 fly over Dunlin, 2 Peregrines, single Sparrowhawk and Kestrel, 120 Redwings, 82 Fieldfares and a Redpoll. A Marsh Harrier, at least 2 Stonechats and a Chiffchaff were reported from Aust Warth. At least 90 Knot, 97 Oystercatchers, 27 Greylag Geese and 2 Peregrines were seen from New Passage.

13th November
A wet and windy day as Storm Debi arrived. Sightings from Severn Beach included a Leach’s Petrel being taken by a Peregrine, a Fulmar, 59 Kittiwakes, 8 Curlew, 2 Turnstones, 30 Dunlin, 8 Curlew, 60 Wigeon, a Shelduck and a Rock Pipit. The only reports of note from the windswept Pilning Wetland/New Passage area involved 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 10 Lapwing, 200 Dunlin, just 5 Redshank, 20 Oystercatchers, 45 Curlew, 40 Greylag Geese, 66 Canada Geese, 49 Shelduck, 150 Teal, 40 Shoveler and 160 Wigeon.

12th November
A wet day with a South East breeze. Morning reports from Aust Cliff/services included a Treecreeper, 2 Peregrines, a Little Egret and flyover migrants involving 3 Brambling, a Redpoll, 354 Siskins and 159 Redwings. Nearby, a Short-eared Owl, 2 Jack Snipe, 15 Snipe, 5 Redshank, 20 Shelduck, 12 Wigeon, 25 Teal, 4 Stonechats, 3 Rock Pipits and 27 Siskins were seen in the Aust Warth/north end of Northwick Warth area. At least 300 Redshank, 172 Black-tailed Godwits, 200 Lapwings, 20 Oystercatchers, 10 Curlew, 50 Dunlin, a Little Egret, 5 Grey Herons, 2 Mute Swans, 23 Canada Geese, 35 Shelduck, 145 Wigeon, 260 Teal, 6 Gadwall, 45 Shoveler and 2 Ravens were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. A quiet high tide visit to Severn Beach produced 20 Dunlin, 40 Turnstones, 50 Oystercatchers, 3 Shelduck, 40 Wigeon and some fly over Siskins.

Reports from Aust Warth included at least 2 Short-eared Owls, a hunting Marsh Harrier, a Peregrine, 6+ Stonechats plus several flyover Common Scoter were sound recorded last night. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 130 Black-tailed Godwits, 300 Redshank, 200 Lapwings, 1200 Dunlin, 30 Curlew, 5 Turnstones, 2 Oystercatchers, a Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, 55 Greylag Geese, 50 Canada Geese, 30 Shelduck, 165 Wigeon, 260 Teal, 40+ Shoveler, 2 Gadwall and a Stonechat.

10th November
A wet start to the day following a very wet night, cool and sunny from mid morning. Early morning reports from Aust Cliff/services included a Great Northern Diver flying North East, 5 Greylag Geese, 3 Peregrines, 2 Ravens, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Rock Pipits, 5 Crossbills (flying South West) and 17 Siskins. Nearby, 3 Short-eared Owls, a Merlin, 80 Canada Geese, 27 Shelduck, 133 Wigeon, 50 Redshank, 15 Oystercatchers, 12 Curlew, single Little Egret, Rock Pipit and Sparrowhawk, 2 Cetti’s Warblers and 2 Stonechats were reported at Aust Warth. At least 35 Black-tailed Godwits, 150 Curlew, 100 Redshank, 50 Dunlin, 130 Lapwings, 60 Snipe, 5 Grey Herons, 56 Greylag Geese, 95 Canada Geese, 15 Shelduck, 190 Wigeon, 280 Teal, 40+ Shoveler, single Pintail, Short-eared Owl and Kestrel were seen from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. At least 100 Dunlin, 15 Shelduck, 50 Wigeon, a Rock Pipit and 2 Stonechats were seen at Severn Beach.

9th November
A day with a gusty West wind with rain including some torrential downpours with hail. A flock of 100 Kittiwakes were seen late afternoon at Severn Beach where other sightings included 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 300 Turnstones, 280 Dunlin, 32 Knot, 80 Oystercatchers, 21 Wigeon and 19 Shelduck. The usual 190 Lapwings, 150 Redshank, 20 Curlew, 80 Oystercatchers, 30 Dunlin, 40 Turnstones, 3 Grey Herons, 55 Greylag Geese, 110 Canada Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 16 Shelduck, 90 Wigeon, 240 Teal, 40+ Shoveler and a Rock Pipit were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. A Stonechat, 2 singing Cetti’s Warblers and a male Sparrowhawk were reported from Aust Warth.

8th November
A wet start to the day and cloudy later. Three Short-eared Owls, the first Bearded Tit record for 9 years (heard calling), at least 4 singing Cetti’s Warblers, 4 Stonechats and a Kestrel were reported from Aust Warth. At least 35 Black-tailed Godwits, 90 Redshank, 70 Turnstones, 20 Dunlin, 10 Lapwings, 26 Curlew, a Little Egret, 7 Grey Herons, 35+ Greylag Geese, 150 Canada Geese, 10 Shelduck, 80 Wigeon, 250 Teal, 40 Shoveler and a Water Pipit were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Reports from Severn Beach included 1000 Dunlin, 280 Turnstones, 170 Redshank, 5 Ringed Plover, 70 Oystercatchers, 45 Curlew, a Snipe, 3 Grey Herons, 2 Mute Swans, 28 Shelduck, 63 Wigeon, 2 Teal, a Gadwall, 2 Pheasants, single Great Black-backed Gull, Sparrowhawk, Cetti’s Warbler and Chiffchaff.

7th November
Sunshine and showers in the cool West wind. The only reports received so far from Aust warth involved 2 Twite, 2+ Stonechats and a Fieldfare. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 80 Redshank, 50 Curlew, 70 Lapwings, just 3 Dunlin, 2 Grey Herons, 59 Greylag Geese, 65 Canada Geese, 6 Shelduck, 155 Wigeon, 110 Teal, 40+ Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, single Pochard, Kestrel and Stonechat. At least 1000 Dunlin, 50+ Curlew, 20 Oystercatchers, 20 Turnstones, 2 Grey Herons, 15 Shelduck, 2 Stonechats and a Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach.

6th November
Another sunny day with a gusty South West wind. Two Short-eared Owls, 2 Peregrines and at least 2 Stonechats were seen at Aust Warth. Reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 80 Lapwings, 60 Redshank, 16 Curlew, 13 Dunlin, 2 Turnstones, 5 Grey Herons, 66 Greylag Geese, 76 Canada Geese, 56 Shelduck, 105 Wigeon, 180 Teal, 45+ Shoveler, 2 Gadwall and a Tufted Duck. At least 1100 Dunlin, 60 Curlew, 20 Turnstones, 20 Oystercatchers, single Grey Heron, Water Rail and Great Black-backed Gull, 60 Wigeon, 24 Shelduck and 2 singing Cetti’s Warblers were reported from the Severn Beach shore.

5th November
A sunny day with a cool gusty West wind. An Arctic Skua, 3 Short-eared Owls, 33 Dunlin, 23 Curlew, 2 Little Egrets, 5 Canada Geese, 30 Shelduck, 15 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 20 Teal, 2 Ravens, single Peregrine, Kestrel, singing Cetti’s Warbler, Siskin and 6+ Stonechats were reported from Aust Warth. At least 50 Curlew, 10 Oystercatchers, 20 Turnstones, 40 Dunlin, 2 Grey Herons, 70 Wigeon and 12 Shelduck were seen at Severn Beach. Combined reports from the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area included 30 Dunlin, 120 Redshank, 60 Lapwings, 76 Curlew, 5 Turnstones, 4 Grey Herons, 40+ Greylag Geese, 90 Canada Geese, 19 Shelduck, 150 Wigeon, 180 Teal, 40+ Shoveler, 2 Peregrines and a Rock Pipit.

4th November
Early morning rain then mainly sunny for the rest of the day. At least 2 Twite, 3 Short-eared Owls, a Water Pipit, 6 Stonechats and a Water Rail were reported at Aust Warth today. An impressive 300+ Turnstones, a Knot, 150 Dunlin, 10 Redshank, 30 Curlew, 35 Oystercatchers, 30+ Shelduck. 70 Wigeon and a Rock Pipit were seen at Severn Beach this morning. Combined reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage included 40 Dunlin, 65 Lapwings, 94 Curlew, 20 Redshank, a Grey Heron, 65 Greylag Geese, 28 Canada Geese, 3 Shelduck, 195 Wigeon, 270 Teal and 45 Shoveler. A Brambling, 4 Redpolls and 8 Siskins flew over Aust Cliff/services this morning.

3rd November
A day of Sunshine and showers. A dark-bellied Brent Goose, 70 Wigeon, 2 Ringed Plover, 100+ Turnstones, 3 Dunlin,  single Redshank, Grey Heron, singing Cetti’s Warbler and Rock Pipit were reported from Severn Beach. Combined reports from Pilning/New Passage included 10 Lapwings, 150 Redshank, 98 Curlew, single Dunlin and Little Egret, 3 Grey Herons, 62 Greylag Geese, 155 Canada Geese, 4 Shelduck, 115 Wigeon, 450 Teal, 40+ Shoveler, single Stonechat and Kestrel. At least 2 Short-eared Owls, a Kestrel and a Stonechat were seen at Aust Warth late afternoon. Two Water Pipits and another Stonechat were reported from Chittening Warth.

2nd November
A cloudy, wet and windy day. Early morning reports from Aust Cliff/ services included a Golden Plover, 4 Grey plover, 22 Black-tailed Godwits, 36 Dunlin, 3 Shelduck, 3 Peregrines, a Kestrel, 2 Ravens, 2 Chiffchaffs, 11 Redpolls and 7 Siskins. At least 105 Curlew, 60 Oystercatchers, 60 Redshank, 80 Dunlin, 20 Lapwings, 5 Snipe, a Little Egret, 7 Grey Herons, 20 Greylag Geese, 280 Canada Geese, 7 Mute Swans, 28 Shelduck, 45 Shoveler, 180 Wigeon, 500 Teal and a Kestrel were seen in the Pilning Wetland/New Passage area. Reports from Severn Beach involved 90 Turnstones, 90 Dunlin, 4 Ringed Plover, 2 Redshank, 3 Curlew, 90 Wigeon, 31 Shelduck, a singing Cetti’s Warbler and a Rock Pipit.

1st November
Some sunny intervals and some heavy rain showers in a gusty South West wind in advance of Storm Ciarán arriving tonight. An immature Gannet was seen heading North East at Severn Beach. Combined reports from Pilning Wetland/New Passage included the Gannet from Severn Beach, 34 Curlew, 80 Lapwings, 70 Redshank, 14 Dunlin, 5 Snipe, a Little Egret, 6 Grey Herons, 60 Greylag Geese, 330 Canada Geese, 7 Mute Swans, 18 Shelduck, 120 Wigeon, 700+ Teal, 4 Gadwall, single Pintail, Raven, Cetti’s Warbler and Kestrel.
