Mergus albellus
This is the rarest of the three Saw-billed ducks to be seen on Severnside with just six records.

The first record was a fine group of five drakes at New Passage at dusk on 13th February 1991,  surprisingly at least four remained in the same spot the following morning despite the tide having gone out in the night.

The second record involved two “Redheads” flying past Chittening Warth on 14th January 1997.

The third record involved another “Redhead” at New Passage in the company of Mallards on 11th January 2003. This was the first to be photographed. A fine drake was seen at New Passage on 8th February 2003.
